My husband, Chris, and I were fortunate to spend a long weekend on the coast of Maine before we had to pack up and move to the northwest. A lovely friend of ours got married, and we were delighted to spend the weekend celebrating this joyous occasion. Because I have so much I want to share, I thought I would break this trip up into two parts. Part two, which I will post on Monday, will highlight the sweet little towns we visited while in Maine. This post, part one, is all about my preparation for the wedding and my experience with Rent The Runway.
This was my very first time using Rent The Runway. For those of you that are unfamiliar with this company, RTR specializes in clothing (primarily dresses) rentals. They have a multitude of options for any occasion you can think of. You rent a garment for a few days, then just send it back. That’s it! Super simple!!! I’ve known about the company for a while, but I was always hesitant to try them. I’m normally the type of person that needs to see an item in person, try it on, then decide if it will work for me. Unfortunatly, living in rural Vermont (as pretty as it is) did not offer a vast array of shopping options. I also didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on something new. I figured this was a perfect opportunity to try Rent The Runway!
As I started browsing through the large inventory of dresses, I already knew what kind of dress I wanted for an afternoon coastal wedding in Maine. I knew I wanted something with movement, and I knew I wanted it to be long. One thing I really love about RTR is that they have really great filter options, so I was able to get as specific as I wanted as I searched! You can narrow your search down to your size(s), the dates you need the dress, price, occasion, color, length, body type, and the list goes on and on! Everything is super user friendly as well!
Here are a few of the filtering options you can expect to see.
Like I said, user friendly! I reserved a pretty Lilly Pulitzer maxi, which I thought would be the perfect dress for this occasion. It checked all the boxes: long, flowy, and it had a very New England east coast feel. HOORAY!!! In addition to picking “The One,” RTR also sends you a free back-up size in your dress just in case your original size doesn’t work! For me, that feature gave me the assurance to go forward with this online venture.
Unfortunately, my RTR fairytale had a small hiccup before my items got to me. On the day before my dress was supposed to be shipped, I received an email from RTR stating that my primary size was unexpectedly unavailable for shipment. As you can imagine, I was super disappointed and a whole lotta stressed! I was leaving for Maine in two days, and now nothing to wear!!!
Enter… my RTR fairy godmother…
A very nice customer service rep (whom I have sworn to protect the identity of ;-)) reassured me that all was not lost. I could pick another dress, and it would still be at my door at the expected time! Cue my huge sigh of relief! So, not only did they send me my new style, but they also sent a backup size in that style AND the backup size in my original pick. You can’t get more customer driven than that. Sure enough, my garments were overnighted and at my door by the next afternoon, wrapped up in a heavy duty and very secure garment bag. Crisis averted, and my husband and I were able to leave for our trip on time the next day.
I ended up wearing the new dress, which turned out to be perfect for the occasion. The wedding was beautiful, and I danced myself to exhaustion…literally. The next day I wrapped my dresses back up in that same heavy duty garment bag, locked it, dropped it at UPS and DONE!
Overall, my experience with RTR was almost flawless. Even when my original plan was squashed, they quickly swooped in and fixed the problem. I understand things happen, but it is how mishaps are handled that really separate good companies from the rest of the pack. I can’t wait to use them again! I’ve already been picking my favorite dresses for the next event!!!
Now, on to what I wore…
This Badgley Mischka dress was perfect! I loved everything about, from the jeweled neckline to the sheer inserts at the bottom. Truly easy-breezy for a coastal wedding!!!
And lastly, I leave you with a sunset pic of the hubs and I. (Yes, we had already been dancing like crazy people.) I couldn’t not post of pic of him since he looked so handsome!
Much love,
Megan
